Laing art gallery space activities

We went to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle this morning with Harry and Peter's cousins to take part in their summer holiday activities. There is an art installation there called Mariner 9, which shows an imagined panoramic landscape of Mars in the future. The children enjoyed it as it is huge, there are moving elements such as lights going on and off and dust storms blowing across the landscape and it is displayed in a large black room with lots of space to move around.

We made some planet mobiles, using oil pastels. We also did some dry printing, by colouring a sheet of white paper with oil pastel, then placing another sheet on top and drawing on this with a pencil. This printed the colour onto the pencil lines on the other side of the paper.
