Reading comprehension dice

These foam comprehension cubes by Learning Resources have been on my Amazon wish list for a few months and I ordered them last week. They are large foam dice with a question on each side. There are two of each colour and the red ones are designed to be used before reading, the blue ones during reading and the green ones after reading. I thought Harry would like the physical aspect of rolling the dice and the surprise element of not knowing which question will come up and he was very impressed. I think we will be using these a lot!

The questions Harry answered for our first use were these:

What does the title tell you about the story?

There is an elephant and a child.

Find and define an unfamiliar word.

We looked up 'haunches' and 'floundered' in the dictionary.

Summarise the story.

The elephant wanted to know what crocodiles eat so he went to the Limpopo river. The crocodile tried to eat him and pulled his nose so it turned into a long trunk. The elephant went home and all the other elephant's wanted long trunks too.
